The Tsaghkahovit team started a fair bit later today because the driver Artur was late. When we arrived I started my workers on completing the removal of Locus 1, the sod/topsoil of the operation. They finished about an hour before lunch, and I closed Locus 1 and opened two new loci to cover the operation. Locus 2 extends from the partition wall to the NW baulk and is roughly 8.2 m long by 3.3 m wide, tapering to the south to 4.4 m along the SW baulk. The matrix is still the dark, loose loamy topsoil of the overburden, with a mixture of LBA and I3 sherds from a brief inspection. After taking measurements I had the workers start removing one pass with the sharp shovel of this locus. At the same time I designated Locus 3 as the top of the partition wall, extending from the eastern to southern corner, which will only be cleaned for Lilit to draw at the end of the season; the locus is still the dark, loose loam of the overburden but the rubble fill of the double-lined wall is starting to show. By the end of the day, the work team (with two extra workers) had taken out about half of Locus 2, starting in the NE and moving to the SW, and I can start to see a darker, blacker loam appearing along the NW baulk which is similar to last year's excavation of the swale in the center of the room.
