Concentrated today on excavating WSI2.20 (at last!). We gradually dug through the packed clay, exposing black lenses suggestive of burning, and removed the large and small slabs of the ceramic platter or tray. The more we removed, the more we seemed to expose beneath. Several pieces were extremely friable, while a few appeared sturdier and may well permit restoration. In all, upwards of 10 cardboard boxes were filled with the slabs, and this does not include the 11 bags that Elizabeth collected last year (coded as a CO from locus 20 in the database). They have been brought to Aparan and we will determine how much of it should reasonably go to Yerevan for restoration. Also, created loci for the column bases in WSI2, but will not add to database until seeing Lilit's final drawing of the entire room. I suspect that some may not be column bases, yet this will be easier to ascertain when I see how they line up with the bases in the other half of the room. Today we also continued in WSN locus 32, and began taking a second pass across the extremely rocky locus, a continuation of the aerated medium brown silt excavated yesterday.
