In the morning we took trowel passes across locus AC2 Locus 7, the dark soil layer with interspersed gravelly bits and stones beneath the stony rubble of locus 7. simultaneously, I took Locus 5 down to midtrench (3 meter mark), revealing some stones embedded in darker soil in a perhaps regular cut within the lighter clayey subsoil. I want to take down 3 meters of Locus 2 next to see what this is. I took a soil sample of Locus 7 in the north of the trench, where there was a concentration of burnt material and cultural material.
We moved over to AC1 and took a trowel pass and then shovel passes across Locus 10. i cleaned out Locus 9 (pit), taking a soil sample. More photos. Locus 10 continues to produce cultural materials, and seems to be shifting from reddish to greyish, with irregular staining. Nice but tiny glazed sherd today from Locus 10 in the southeast section of the trench, near the baulk east of the pit.
