LK was not in the field today, so I had a couple of extra workmen with me. This was useful for removing the rock cluster in the middle of the trench. Earlier I had suspected that a couple of stone alignments were indications of an interior wall, but it is clear now that that was not the case. There is still some serious wall fall in the southwestern side of the trench that will have to be dealt with at some point, however.
Locus 8 was opened today to get a sense of the soil matrix in the front of the trench. LK's trench from 2005 is roughly in the middle of this locus, but oddly I did not find any significant difference between the matrix on the NE and SW edges and the matrix in the middle. I'll have to revisit it with her tomorrow. In the meantime, the area locus 5 dealt with is being put on hold so I can make some downward progress in the front (NW) of the trench. I opened locus 9 directly below locus 7 for this purpose.
