AM rainwash and baulk cleaning in AC1 and AC2. finished drawing AC2 Locus 8 (stones), left AC2 to dry out another day. Cleaning and baulk trim in AC1 revealed a soil change in the eastern section of the trench, less than a meter in the northeast corner and widening to nearly two meters at the south baulk. it appears that the general rockiness and softness of the soil in this side of the trench (designated Locus 14, in contrast to locus 13, the more consilidated surface-lenses in the western trench) is related to the foundation of the eastern caravanserai wall which enters the trench near 2 meters from the s baulk.
Took loci 13 and 14 down together. Locus 13 transitioned to a sandy, crumbly locus which was designated Locus 15. Locus 15 was quickly seen to contain a large burnt feature (locus 16) emerging from the north baulk. This feature is burnt and smeary, containing some rocks including a hunk of obsidian. Took a sample of locus 16.
