This morning we started a new locus (Locus 20) in the eastern part of the trench. The matrix in Locus 20 is the same tan clay, mottled with medium and dark brown and with small lenses of ash and charcoal, as seen in Locus 10 and Locus 12. There is still quite a bit of charcoal in the matrix. The material densities seem lower for this locus than for earlier levels. There is an area of burnt beam and rocks in the NE corner, just east of Locus 18. The long burnt beam running north-south is Locus 21 and the concentration of beams and rocks in the NE corner itself is Locus 22. Locus 18 is also larger than previously thought. There is another beam, north of the center of the locus, which is now Locus 23. Due to an abrupt early finish (on account of heavy winds on the east side of the hill), I was only able to photograph the NE corner (Loci 18, 21, 22) and was unable to take any C14 samples.
