Narrative

In the AM took levels of the fallen stones in AC2, which can now be removed. Worked in AC1 removing locus 15, cleaning locus 20 (the trough feature) and uncovering the floor (locus 21). Locus 15 is seriously thick, now pushing a meter. Created a new datum for measuring, on the wall concrete in the southeast corner, which is 103 cm below the trench datum. In the PM I noticed an inconsistency in the stones within loci 14/17-- while some stones seemed vertically oriented, the majority of the wall context we had preserved appeared to be in a state of collapse, mixed with dark brown soil. I aggressively cleaned locus 17 starting from the north baulk, and we uncovered the wall core of decayed dressed stones in concrete (more-or-less the shape of these stones in the concrete) sitting on an ashlar foundation with a small lip. Removed almost all Locus 14, which is rich in bones, and continued taking down locus 15. The floor appears to be paved in stone under a layer of muddy clay-- we will move through Locus 15 tomorrow and switch to trowels to approach it.
