We worked on several loci in WSN today. Among the more minor projects, we completed the top of the southwest wall (46), completed the narrow area of locus 47, completed locus 40 (bringing it down to the clay and burnt black matrices), and worked in locus 31. Also, we opened a new locus to designates the top of the northwest wall (50). But most of my energies today were focused on the floor of the room itself. We continued in locus 48, taking the first pass to the northern edge of the locus. I then created a new locus immediately adjacent to 48 to the southeast, locus 49. Here, we worked mostly with trowels, aiming to identify the floor surface immediately above the clay prep. The floor slopes to the northwest and thus so too does this locus. I regard locus 48 and 49 as cultural levels. The presumed column base corresponds with the level of the flagstone floor and in all likelihood rests upon the floor (other bases not yet identified). Adam, Ruben, Pavel, and the Gegharot crew came to visit today. Had a chance to discuss the situation in room N with Adam. He agrees that we may have two construction phases in this room. The flagstone floor and stone feature of locus 31 would belong to the first phase. So too may the linear constructions in the southern corner, atop the bedrock outcrop. The secondary alignment of locus 41 and the other alignments that appear not to be resting atop the flagstone floor may be associated with a second construction phase. We also agreed that the situation in locus 40 likely points to some kind of production activity (evidence of burning). Adam recommends removing the large trapezoidal stone from last year, which is now clearly floating quite high in the stratigraphic column.
