Narrative

I established a new datum (Datum 5) on the large rock in the northern wall of the trench. The broken groundstone (Ar/Ge.T31.20.L.03) is lying on top of a rock which appears to be part of the line of rocks which is either a second wall or the inner face of the wall which is Locus 25. We found a portion of a groundstone (Ar/Ge.T31.30.L.01) at a depth of 53 cm below Datum 5. In Locus 30, just south of the wall (Locus 25), there is a yellow/orange sandy matrix coming up. It is the same matrix that was visible in the stair step (made by taking down Locus 19). I hoped that by tracing it out, we might establish the boundary between EB and LB, but after taking down Locus 30, it was not quite clear. The yellow/orange sandy matrix ran along the rocks extending out from the wall and continued past where the rocks ended, at that point it is paralleled by a dark brown matrix. The dark brown matrix widens as it goes south past the end of the yellow/orange matrix and appears to be at a lower depth than it as well.
We started a new Locus (Locus 31) along the eastern wall. The matrix is generally a medium brown, silty, clayey loam, with small lenses of light tan clay and a lot of charcoal. We found a piece of burnt cord near the SE corner of the locus, at a depth of 62 cm below Datum 5, and we collected it for further analysis. It was found in an area with a large amount of charcoal.
