Had 7 workers today and started in the morning removing some loose dirt in Locus 3 and narrowing the already-too-large wheelbarrow ramp. Also had them clean the emerging SW and NW walls. After the first break they did one shovel pass in Locus 4, the northern corner where there appears to be a break in the wall. I'm confused because there looks to be the small stones of the internal rubble spilling out, which might suggest a poorly preserved section of the wall, yet there is a clear gap in the interior face. Its possible we have yet to come down on the large stones that fell from this area of the wall. The soil between the stones in this 1.5 by 3 m area is much lighter, almost yellowish chalk, but still has a lot of roots in it and small pebbles, suggesting it is still the overburden and not some cultural lens.
Before lunch I took elevations for another pass in Locus 3, since the matrix has not changed and is still the loose dark brown loam across the operation. From the NW baulk of WSAC2 it looks like we still have a shovel pass to go before we start hitting the compact clay-y matrix of the cultural fill. There are more large stones emerging in this locus which might be wall fall/tumble from other areas of the room. At the end of the day we had finished about 2/3 of this second pass in Locus 3. HOT TODAY.
