Narrative

We finished uncovering the feature in locus 29 today. The locus had a relatively high amount of materials, especially pottery (several rims, at least some of which were Iron) and bone. The function of the feature remains unclear. It appears to interface with the flagstone floor in locus 17 in some way, but at the moment the wheelbarrow ramp is obstructing our view of it. According to LK this sort of construction -- in the middle of the trench as it is -- has not yet been seen in any other room in the complex.

After finishing 29 we began 30, which takes the patch of dirt to the SE of 29 down to the same level as the rest of the trench. A couple of charcoal samples were found in this locus: see Ar/Ts.WSM2.30.C14.01 and Ar/Ts.WSM2.30.C14.02.

Progress was also made in locus 23, most of which has now been considerably lowered. Many large rocks continue to slow work in this locus. Tomorrow we'll likely need to resume breaking them.
