Spent the better portion of the morning removing a second pass of top soil from the top of the trench and beginning to clean the bedrock outcrop that has begun to appear in the NW corner of the trench. A pile of rocks also began to appear in the NE quadrant of the trench, which we cleaned as part of L01, and then began to excavate/clear as part of L03. I opened L02 and L03 once we had cleared the second pass of L01, with L02 covering the NW quadrant of the trench and equaling the cleaning of the bedrock outcrop, and L03 covering the NE quadrant of the trench (an extending a bit to the south) in order to clean, expose (and eventually remove?) the stone pile in this part of the trench. None of these stones seem to be architecture, so they will probably be removed as part of L03. In the afternoon I also helped Adam set up the total station grid and begin surveying. Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent that surveying without the survey wheel on such a steep slope is going to be nearly impossible. It is very difficult to keep an even cadence walking up and down hill, so we'll probably want to sort out a way to get our hands on the Ithaca College survey wheel. After quickly downloading the data and taking a look at it this afternoon, it's clear that without the survey wheel, it's basically useless, so I'll get in touch with Bodhi and see about shipping it. Fingers crossed.
