Varduhi made some serious progress while I was away by finishing the removal of the baulk between T27 and T22 (at least the upper, most-westerly portion that ends just above the pit (Ar/Ge.T27.64), extending T27 just to the N, finishing T33 (reaching bedrock) and opening a new trench to the S (T34). However, since she left today to go to Kyrgysztan for a conference, now I'm taking over her operations. Seeing the whole expanse of T22, T27, T32 and T33 open at once is great, and makes it pretty clear that the whole complex was probably used together. It would be worth looking at the excavation notes and photos from T22 in order to better understand how the "courtyard" or rock platform would have connected with the rest of the structure. In any case, most of the work is finished in T32 and T33, so I had the workers continue to excavate T34 (hopefully we'll reach bedrock in the next few days) and also in the T27 and T32 extensions-- we'll want to expose a wall here if possible, since the architecture outside the main eastern-facing structure at Gegharot is not very clear. Perhaps there are terracing walls, but there is not convincing evidence for any real architectural construction.
Additionally, we got the survey wheel from Arkati today, so we were able to begin GPR survey again. The survey wheel has made this survey much much easier, and the data continues to be convincing. I'll email it off to Bodhi tonight and hope that he can run it through GPR slice sometime tommorrow,
