Narrative

Great weather today. Cold, slight clouds and wind, warm sun.

Cleared some pedestaled, smaller stones from the portion of the curvilinear stone formation separating I1 locus 2 from E1 locus 3.

Excavation operations still centered on the top of locus 2 in I2 region, to level locus 2. Found a second 'whetstone' in locus 2 I2. It is an imperfect rhomboid but more regular than the first 'whetstone'. Measurements pending. It was found 0.575 m below datum, 0.42 m from the south-baulk, and 1.11 m from the east-baulk.

My crew is also finding many chalk-like stones. The total found is now 4, mostly towards the southwest corner. They are usually flat rhomboids, with two opposing faces being of disproportionate length to the other 4 faces. However, I hesitate to consider them worked. They range from 10 cm to 30 cm at greatest dimension. They are located just below the height of the curvilinear basalt stone formation.

The skull of a member of the Mustela (probably Mustela nivalis, the Least Weasel) genus was found at a depth of 1.12 m, 2.0 m from west-baulk, 3.20 m from south-baulk. It appears to have suffered a broken right orbit, which eventually healed. The cranium was found below the curvilinear stone formation, but was also found near a burrow that had not yet collapsed.

Also, a piece of worked obsidian was found. It is particularly worked along one edge, which has been knapped with a soft instrument such as an antler to create a small, irregular blade. It was found in locus 2, 1.09 m below datum, 0.92 m from east-baulk, and 4.10 m from north-baulk. Measurements pending.
