Today we continued to clean what has now been called locus 35 (the 9.33m in the NW of the trench), and at the end of the day we took final photos. I opened locus 34 in the other end of the trench to try to make some more progress there, but it still doesn't look likely that it will get done before the season ends.
AS visited the site today and made the suggestion that the "trough" feature against the NW wall might have had some relationship to an interior wall, whereas the NW wall itself might not have been covered by insulation or some such and not meant to be seen. He also made the suggestion that the room might have been a courtyard -- its size and the difficulty that would have been involved roofing it support this notion.
Various ideas have been discussed as to what the feature in locus 29 may be. Some suggestions: a chicken pen, a garbage pit, an eating area, and a fountain. The materials that came out of the locus, while relatively many for WSM2, do not clearly support any view.
