Had an extensive consultation with Adam today regarding WSM3 and WSN. The main topics of discussion were whether to take WSM3 down to bedrock or pursue passageways and doorways to neighboring rooms. In the interest of answering research questions for the book, particularly pertaining to the unity of precinct as a single complex, we agreed that it would make the most sense to pursue the doorways and passageways. Best practices requires, however, that I complete WSM3 in our next season if I don't get to it this year. With that plan in mind, the first step will be to open the doorway between M and N from the M side (this was begun today with locus 104). Probably will not dismantle the robust blockage on the N side (already drawn by Lilit, in any case). For there, it is hard to confirm the presence of an opening (perhaps simply due to shifts over time). Time permitting, will next remove the floating fallen rocks in WSN 100/101, that I once thought might be the back wall of an annex. Will then pursue the passageway into O through an extension on M3 that squares off with the end of WSN to the northwest. As for the interior of WSN, Adam floated the possibility that it was a space for industrial production due to possible slag in locus 65. We discussed a strategy for moving forward in this confusing area. Will collect slag samples for XRF analysis. Will then create a rectilinear probe as far as the base stone, then pursue this probe on two sides to try and clarify the stratigraphy.
