Narrative

Continued excavating in T34 today. At the beginning of the day I opened a new locus (L04) based on the fact that the soil seemed to be changing consistency in the NE corner of the trench. However, the density of finds remains relatively low; across the whole locus (which takes up a significant portion of the trench, approximately 6.5 m N-S and 5.5 m E-W) there is only one bag of pottery, one bag of bone and one lithics bag so far and we've excavated almost twenty centimeters. In any case, the N, E and W walls continue deeper-- one may have four courses. One particularly strange/interesting aspect of the architecture in T34 is the fact that the western wall seems to have two walls separated by a very small (50 cm or so) space filled with soil. The eastern-most wall is best constructed with larger stones, while the western-most wall of this pair is made up of one line of stones and is relatively poor construction (in comparison). However, it is clearly a wall because it has 3 courses at this point. It's unclear as of now whether this is actually some sort of annex or closet, or if this is a refacing of the wall with soil acting as fill? In any case I will open a new locus for this area tomorrow and we'll excavate there in other to get a better idea of the relationship between these two walls. We'll also continue to work in the main area of the trench between the three walls to hopefully reach bedrock tomorrow.
