today spent entirely in AC2, resolving the floor issue. finished removing sectioned Locus 12 and revealing locus 14, which was much less linear in the northern section, with large stained/burnt sections at different levels. Also, the preservation in this section was problematic due to drying, and the weird clayey chunkiness of the matrix. once Locus 14 was cleaned, i isolated three areas for soil samples for macrobot and pollen (labeled 1, 2, 3). Then i started a 10 cm pass, approximately to the bottom level of the samples. this revealed a set of flagstones at odd angles near the northern arch base (Locus 10N), which is sitting on a rough tuff pedestal similar to that in AC3 (Locus 10S has an ashlar base), all encased in a new surface of smeary black and orange clay extending about to mid-trench, where there is an eroded ashlar 'step' up to an emerging orange clay floor around the southern arch base. need to clean this all the rest of the way on mon. iron arrowhead from the black clay surface right by the flagstone in N trench. tricolor sgraff. sherd from the screen, definitely from the northern 2/3 of the trench.
