AM took out architectural collapse (leaving 3 large ashlars in S trench) in AC1, exposing clayey fill slumped above stone floor. The locus we removed today, beneath the stones and above the clayey deposit in the NE and above the floor stones in the SW and SE, was designated Locus 13. The clayey deposit is locus 14. Cleaned out the trough deposits (locus 10) completely, taking 3 soil samples.
Cleaned up in AC1 in preparation to sample and remove he southern section of Locus 21.
PM. Cleaned the top of AC2 Loci 15 (black, smeary, stained soil in eastern trench) and 16 (red clay, hard-packed, higher, in S trench and step to north), photos. took down locus 15 with trowels to the next level, a grey-brown clayey soil with the remains of staining (locus 17), more photos. iron finds from locus 15 include a ring (harness?) and a mystery object, probably a nail tho. also maybe a hoof pick? i think locus 15 is definitely a prepared surface and a floor (meets the arch bases), still figuring out locus 17 and its relationship with the somewhat-collapsed ashlars around it.
