We decided this morning, given that we only have two days left, to concentrate our efforts on taking down the eastern part of the trench down to the level of the lower LB floor (Locus 49). In Locus 49, we exposed portion of a third floor which is between the floor which was the bottom of Locus 41 and the floor that is the bottom of Locus 49. This floor had already been cleared from the northern half of Locus 49, so the decision was made to make the northern half of the floor a new locus (Locus 55), which would then be taken down to the level of the middle floor, where as the southern half of the floor is Locus 49 and was to be taken down to the level of the lower floor. In the NW corner of Locus 55 there is small pit, oval in shape, which has axes of 30 cm and 20 cm, which is now Locus 57. Its contents were taken as a macrobotanical sample (Ar/Ge.T31.57.MB.01). There was a lot of charcoal and black staining in the locus, and I took a sample for radiocarbon dating.
We found a piece of worked bone (Ar/Ge.T31.49.B.01) near the center of the locus at 2283.73 masl. We found a bone tool (Ar/Ge.T31.49.B.02) in the western part of the locus, at 2283.78 masl. We found another piece of groundstone (Ar/Ge.T31.49.L.04) in the SW corner at 2293.71 masl. We found a spindle whorl (Ar/Ge.T31.49.B.03) in the SW corner at 2283.75 masl. We found another bone tool (Ar/Ge.T31.49.B.04) nearby at 2283.80 masl. The bone tools appear to have been sitting on the middle floor. In the NE corner of Locus 55, we found four small beads (Ar/Ge.T31.55.SH.01) at 2283.84 masl. Nearby, we found a retouched flake (Ar/Ge.T31.55.L.01) at 2283.79 masl.
