Yesterday's rain was ill-timed. Final photos will be tomorrow, but the trench was in sorry shape today. We spent the morning bailing water out of the lower loci. 45 and 49 were filled with runoff, and essentially had to be re-dug.
Locus 16 was finally closed today. It is worth noting that we didn't take this feature down as far as we might have. This is largely because the narrowness of the trough (or whatever it is) makes digging difficult; the fact that much of the soil within it is LK's fill from WSM was also a consideration. At any rate, the bottom of the NW wall was exposed in locus 46, so we know where the bottom course is. It is unlikely that another locus within the trough would have yielded any significant materials.
I assigned locus numbers to the walls, and took their final elevations. The NW wall is locus 54, the SW wall locus 55, and SE wall locus 56.
I was going to begin drawing the NE baulk, but after consulting with LK we decided to open a new locus (57) along it (due SE of the flagstone floor) so that the bedrock clay would be more evident. There were no bags for this locus.
