Today i drew a plan and east section of AC2 while the workers dug down in AC4. the levels in AC4 resolved into red clay surfaces in the northeast and northwestern corners (Locus 10) banked by upright ashlars (this build feature is locus 112, there is no locus 11 for this operation). I declared the browner fill in the southern and central part of the trench Locus 9, and had the workers take it out-- soil sample from near the 'curb' by the north baulk. Underneath this level, a stone-paved surface emerged (so, a gutter running up the center of the caravanserai perpendicular to the gutter in AC2). In the southern part of the trench, where the gutter sloped down, the deposits were deeper and layered in washes. I took pollen samples of subsequent wash layers of dark soil (Locus 9 A B and C) and a soil sample, then stopped the digging and resumed excavating the remaining deposits by soil layer. This was a little messy, but I hope to redeem a little resolution in the materials if there is any. These wash loci are 13, 14, and then 15, which is the last, lying on top of the pavement (locus 16).
