Today in WSDB, we cleaned Locus 18 for the final photos, and we didn\\\'t find much more material in the locus. In total, the material that *might* belong to Locus 20 (the body) could be in the 18, 19, and 20 bags, since parts of the skeleton were missing.
After cleaning, we closed Locus 18 and dug through the \\\"burial chamber\\\" to open the \\\"passage\\\" toward the NW baulk of WSDB. There were some very small pieces of charcoal in the clayey, light brown, damp matrix of the new Locus 21, and we collected them, but I\\\'m not sure that they will make a sufficient sample. The charcoal was collected from beneath where the body was found.
After trying to open the \\\"passage\\\" (which remained stubbornly narrow, at about 60 cm), we extended the trench again to the NW. The total area of the trench is now 7.5 m x 4 m. We were hoping to be able to remove a large stone that is floating in the 6 m baulk, but upon removing the topsoil of the 3rd extenion (Locus 22), we found yet another rock leaning on top of the floater in the previous NW baulk. The rocks in the W corner of the trench are truly puzzling, and for now, extending the trench has yielded more head-scratching and questions than answers. But we\\\'ll continue to clean it and see what we can see.
