Today in Kurgan 2, we continued to come down in the SE quadrant (locus 3). As we cleared more dirt away from the top of the capstone, there is a group of smaller rocks that are floating just above the capstone (possibly sitting atop the clay layer over the capstone). The group of stones continues into the baulk. It is not exactly clear what the relationship is between these stones and the capstone. It is possible that they have been moved out of place by post-depositional processes.
As we were coming down in the SE quadrant (Locus 3), the shovels hit an innominate from a large animal (likely cow or horse). Half of it was dislodged by the shovels, but the other half we pedastaled in situ and photographed. It was located 2.65m from the E wall of the trench and 5.5 m N of the SE corner of the trench at a depth of 2212.283 masl.
In Kurgan 3, we continued to clean the rocks in the SW quadrant.
