Today (another hot and muggy, somewhat cloudy day), we worked exclusively in WSDA1. We continued to take down locus 45 (the SE half of the room) by shovel and screen, and there we continued to find the rather large quantities of animal bone that we were also finding in Locus 44 to the NW. We even unearthed part of a (horse?) maxilla w/ some front teeth intact. The screening slowed the work down a little, but we were still able to run 2 wheelbarrows, screen, and dig.
I also started (and nearly finished) taking down Locus 26, the curvilinear feature that rings the E corner and is partly constructed of worked bedrock. In the locus, amongst the worked rocks and unworked rocks, I found 2 nice red-slipped fineware sherds, and some bone, obsidian, and other ceramics. One of the bedrock arms points toward the west corner and appears to encircle the area to the N of the locus, so based on that orientation, I took a soil sample (Ar/Ts.WSDA1.26.MB.01). I\\\'ll finish taking down the feature, cleaning it, and photographing it tomorrow. I hope that we have at most 2 more days to finish WSDA entirely.
