Today was a somewhat peaceful day at Tsaghkahovit; my guys were backfilling WSDB, and Lori had 3 guys at Nigavan, leaving 6 in WSS1 and 2. We closed all loci in WSS1 today, and most in WSS2, with the exception of feature Locus 13. In WSS2.13, we found enormous pieces of charcoal, even one that might be large enough to be considered a burned beam. We\'ll have to check that over (Ar/Ts.WSS2.13.C14.02).
Feature Locus 13 thus seems to have been a hearth or an oven of some sort, given the massive quantity of charcoal in it. There is also some fired clay that isn\'t quite ceramics, but may have fired in the process of cooking. The feature is not quite dug down to bedrock, but we should be able to finish it tomorrow.
In the meantime, after closing all other loci in WSS1 and 2, we created a floor locus for WSS1&2, which is now what the operation will be considered. The floor locus is 5. (The walls should be 1-4.)
We then systematically sampled the soil in meter-by-meter intervals, except where rocks or features interfered. We pulled 27 soil samples and took measurements for each.
We had to end early (3 pm) because it began to rain, but tomorrow, barring really bad weather, we should be able to dig through the floor in a lot of the room.
