Today marked the first arrival at trench east bedrock and a markedly improved understanding of the full stratigraphic extent in AB4. In trench east, the pursuit of locus 22 ended in similar sandy rocks as was present in western locus 21, directly above. Thus, downward progress was continued as locus 23, a very compact, rocky matrix that terminated in bedrock. Thus, eastern AB4 appears to feature a clear stratigraphic section displaying the LB and EB occupations surfaces and the fill between them.
In trench west, we cleaned the entirety of the remaining soil in locus 17, defining several more pit rocks at the base of excavation and reaching bedrock in the northern locus portion. Next steps will involve a complete removal of the locus 17 wall stones to complete the bisection.
In locus 16, trench southeast, definition of EB in situ sherds on the black surface and numerous rocks in the SW corner of the operation continued. Some material appears to perhaps be EB1. A very small and gracile ceramic ring fragment was recovered here, either a small vessel handle or a bead/jewelry ornament.
Finally, mapping activities included a successful backsight, but high winds prevented mapping activities to commence.
