Narrative

Today Maureen worked with me in Kurgan 2. We continued to clean and expose the second skeleton (Locus 107) in the central chamber. There is a diffuse scatter of red carnelian beads, blue, black, and white paste beads around the edges of Locus 107. Additionally, we uncovered more of the friable yellow rings, usually in small concentrations. They are too friable to lift and are difficult even to expose without destroying them. There was a fairly large concentration of them along the western side of the chamber (83 cm north of the NW corner). It seems to me very likely that rather than bead impressions, these might be biological remains (perhaps related to insect activity). It began to rain at 1:45 PM and we halted work. At 2:15, it began to rain very hard and hail, so we decided to end work early.
