Narrative

Today was a half workday due to Vartavar and foundation promo filming. We walked two transects (one south, one north) and seemed to collect less overall data than was accomplished on the more western transects. In this survey sector, we are moving from west to east--each successive transect growing slightly shorter in length N-S.

Signal issues prevented some GIS data collection on our first southward transect (15). I recorded several isolated burials and architecture segments, including on interesting installation of large stone slabs covered in basins and carved channels/grooves (Ar/Ni.AG15.21). This is a potential work space. Many E-W ridges here continue to feature carved stone and standing spaces, potential defensive positions. Not sure it is all recordable as "isolated architecture," however.

In addition to the more ancient constructions, we are also moving through an area of intensive soviet irrigation facilities. These present themselves most often as regularly spaces sprinkler/irrigation "heads," 1.3m tall pipes set into concrete. Concrete "boxes" with square holes also seem to accompany these installations, either as covers, pumping relays, etc.

Isolated burials and small snippets of architecture rounded out Transect 16 and we ended the day after lunch, before 2. Over the next two days we will likely complete this northern portion of the survey region west of Aparan.
