Today was rained out between 10 and 11AM as large thunderstorms gathered north of our position west of Aparan, swept down the Kasakh Valley, east across the Tsaghkunyats, and then back west towards ArAGATS. Ian, Gabby, Salpi, and I completed half of one southbound transect, recording burials and fragmentary architecture just west of Nigavan Settlement 05.
Cattle grazing and field clearance / amelioration have significantly impacted the landscape here, aggressively cutting the western slope of Nigaberd 5 and 6 and piling rocks at the bases of various large burials and small outcrops. There are cemeteries of large kurgans and cromlechs in this portion of the survey area, but sorting out exactly how many (conclusively identifying members) is a difficult process.
