While following out the locus 48 floor under lous 36, we uncovered the lower half of an in situ vessel with a handle on the locus 48 floor at 261cm below datum. This became locus 55 and was cleaned and photographed before removal. Pavel said it's difficult to determine the period of the vessel without the shoulder, but it may connect with some large sherds collect just above in the locus 37 or 48 bags. Took a small soil sample from the center of the pot (Ar/Ts.SLT1.55.SS.1). Then continued pollen sampling, doing locus 48 floor. N-S columns are spaced 1m apart, while rows are 50cm apart. Avoided large rocks and the locus 54 stone floor. Swept and took photos of loci 19&34 floors, and later post-excavation photos of loci 18&50 pits. Will finish excavating the northern half of the pits after we've drawn and photographed the floor that overlaps it. Put a 1x1m window in the SW corner of locus 34 floor to see how far bedrock is and see how much time we'll need to finish. While continuing to take out locus 49 in northern half of trench, tooka carbon sample from locus on top of locus 47 floor (Ar/Ts.SLT1.47.C14.2) a bit west of yesterday's sample. Should finish locus 49 tomorrow. In SLT3, we're continuing down another 10cm or so until locus 14. Exposed some large collapse stones that will have to removed.
