Today marked a big day for the KVAS expedition. We completed the original Ar/Ni survey quadrant. We walked a total of three distinct transects-- all of significant (1.5 km+ length) Yes, we will all be feeling that tomorrow. The most prevalent findings were small burial clusters. We also encountered a limited amount of isolated architecture -- some of which is potentially just outcrop with cleavage... We were working above the altitude of Soviet irrigation features.
We revisited and mapped the extension of the corridor also affectionately known as the "road to nowhere" which was identified in the south-central portion of the survey area stretched almost all the way to the western survey boundary. Flat stones in the middle of the road perhaps are suggestive of paving cobblestones. Arguably this could be indicative of some sort of processual way. The impact of cattle trails in the area makes it hard to determine the full extension of this feature.
In our final transect, we noted the presence of a Soviet-era geodesic station. This was situated on a hilltop that appears to have some terracing. Tomorrow we will (hopefully) move onto new territories! The exact location of which have not yet been disclosed.
In other news, today we had coffee after lunch. The caffeination was much appreciated and the crew collectively hopes that this become a longstanding ritual.
