This morning we walked the remaining portion of flat fields just east of the M3 highway. These were recently mowed and it became possible to walk them with higher visibility. Unfortunately after this one transect my stomach succumbed to the traditional ailments of the Armenian newb.
While I immediately after sought refuge in the house the team carried on, conducting aerial data collection with the drone at Aparani Berd before rain ultimately ended their day.
In Ar/Ar, my transects were generally free of archaeological materials and features. There were, however, several large (soviet-era) irrigation cisterns, pumping stations, and pipes.
Also while I was resting, the KVAS team showed Nigaberd 05 to geologist Arkaady Karakhanian who was visiting. It remains unclear the extent to which the Nigaberd "architecture" is culturally constructed. There is high suspicion amongst a few of us that at least some of the architecture we have labeled as "fortress" is actually the product of natural events (i.e. weathering). It seems that only excavation will have the final word.
