Narrative

In SLT1, our 1x1m window in the SW corner of locus 34 floor, we hit bedrock after about 50cm. Took a carbon sample from thick clay near the yellow clay bedrock; calling it locus 34 since it seems to be at the bottom of the floor layer (Ar/TS.SLT1.34.C14.1). Seems to be one thick layer of floor rather than multiple layers. Perhaps eastern floors don't continue that far west. Taking out locus 48 floor so we can pollen sample locus 45 floor below it. While taking back floor working west we came across a very dense black clay ledge with very soft soil behind it. May be a pit, though very few artifact coming out of it. Continuing to trace it out. In case it's a feature, soil will be locus 58 and clay rim will be locus 59. We opened a 1x3m expansion off the trench's west bault and south face of fortification wall to see if we can find a continuation of locus 22 wall. Topsoil is locus 56 and lighter tan soil below it will be locus 57. Finished locus 49 and took photo of locus 47 floor below it. Came across an oven fragment while finishing 49. In SLT3, took a carbon sample from locus 13 in back corner at 252cm below datum where we've been getting a number of good samples. Not many good samples in my trenches so I'm milking this area. This locus is definitely a strong cultural layer (probably a floor) since troweling around I came across a lot of small bones and artifacts. Pavel's reading of the ceramics have shown that is definitely a good LBA layer.
