Narrative

This morning Salpi, Ian, Alan, and I completed the Lusagyugh region of our survey. We walked three transects. The first (42) was about 1300 meters downslope from west to east. There was little to report in my transect. We did find some obsidian debitage and ceramic sherds. The only burials we encountered had been previously recorded in the 2014 survey. This area, in particular, was very swampy. Much of the land has been tilled and is undergoing preparation for agricultural high time.

In our second transect (43), from east to the northwest of transect 42, we also encountered little of archaeological interest. In the beginning of my walk I recorded Ar/Li.GB15.10, a modern (likely soviet) period architectural construction. While the original function of this 10 x 10m building situated in prime farming land remains unclear, it is clear that the deteriorating structure is no longer in use.

Prior to our last transect of the morning we went to see Levon's work nearby. He was excavated what appeared to be a natural canal feature. This sort of water system (be it cultural or natural) is not the only of its kind we have encountered in this fertile area (that encompasses areas of higher and lower plain elevations) so it was interesting to see the actual excavation of one.

In our final transect of the day and in the region (44) we walked from west to the south east (road). Due to a surplus of barley fields in mine and Ian's transects we were forced to conclude our transects a bit early. In the area we did manage to cover there seemed to be nothing of cultural interest. Any and all piles of rocks were the result of clearance rather than mortuary activity.

We intend to spend the rest of the day catching up on database work at the house and possibly droning at Aparani Berd.
