Today we nearly concluded our third and final transect of test trenches. We also extended T37J into a 4 x 4m unit (renamed T38). This unit contained a remarkably high concentration in comparison to the other units as well as a cluster of stones in a N - S (locus 4) that resembled an EB terracing wall. The day was mostly consumed by removing the topsoil of this new and considerably larger unit. We also closed out units T37 M and T37N. Unfortunately we did not reach bedrock in either of these two western units. We did, however, encounter paleo lake deposits, indicated by the presence of dark/ light alternating lenses in the profile. Also of interest, in T37 N we found a piece of Karnut Shengavit pottery! This fragment contained a relief of a bird! All the materials continue to be early bronze age; however, most pieces are not diagnostic of EB1 vs. EB 2. Tomorrow we plan to focus our efforts on T 38.
