Unfortunately our work was cut short today at Gegharot. Magdu has not graced us with sunshine this week so yet again we were forced to abandon our quest to expand T38 yet again. This morning we began to turn the 6x8m unit into a 7x10m operation. Increasing the unit north 2m and east 1m we hope to clarify the orientation and configuration of the architecture already exposed in the unit. As the past two weeks has shown these extensions can feel like a slow and painstaking process. It requires a number of revisions of previous loci, the movement of ample dirt, and sincere patience in the effort to reach the elevation of the existing unit. Given the difficulty we are being conservative each time we extend so as to not waste time on empty deposits. It does, however, seem like a genuine possibility that we will have to extend further east as well as south in the upcoming future. Once we have successfully traced the known architectural features we can then begin to excavate our exposed contexts.
Prior to the rain this morning we also mapped in the remaining GPR grid points, retook T12 and T13 corners, as well as added the new corners of T38. Additionally we took photos of T13 and a number of other loci. Due to climate conditions we had to postpone detailed drawing.
