Today was spent digging three new trenches on the lower east slope of the site, 07, 08, and 09. I chose the area for operation 07 (2 x 2m) because of an east-west alignment of stones that could not be a terrace wall (following the terrace wall had not served us well in 06). Since it seemed possible that this was a room wall, I decided to dig on either side of it to see which direction might be the interior. Operation 08 (2 x 2m) was placed 1m to the north. Operation 09 (2 x 1) was placed 1.5m to the south. Both 08 turned out to be a one locus operation! Bedrock just beneath topsoil. 07 wasn't much better. But 09 may be deeper. We're seeing darker silt below sod, and the higher elevation of this area is promising. May suggest deeper deposits. I also noticed different vegetation pattern in the area of 09. New crew of 4 more workers today.
