It was an interesting day today. I spent the morning deciding where to lay out new trenches, and decided upon the summit of the citadel. Placed one 3 x 2m trench at the very top (Operation 10), on either side of a linear stone alignment that appears to be a wall. Then placed a second 2 x 2m probe on a slightly lower terrace just to the north, against what appears to be a curvilinear construction. Both operations appear to be extremely rocky, so will likely have to expand. But, in consultation with Ruben, decided it was time to investigate the top of the fort, since the slopes had not been too resultative. And yet, unexpectedly, it appears we have indeed found a room on the east slope. Operation 09, though very small, is interesting. Have exposed two courses of a curvilinear wall and a floor matrix. Two joining fragments of a grindstone. Ironic that my smallest probe this year had the most small finds, between this grindstone and the ceramic spool. Time permitting, I will expand this operation to the south. Two villagers gave me artifacts today, both of which are coded in the database. One is a ceramic button coded as Ar/An.OF.02.CO.01. The other is a complete ceramic vessel coded as Ar/An.OF.01.C.01. This one has been returned to the owner, Abraham Barseghyan.
