Spent the day on the citadel, working in operations 10, 11, and and the new operation 14, to the south of 10. In 10, we seem to be exposing a wall. Thus far 2 courses are exposed. The northern part of the trench is very rocky, and it's hard to imagine that it's all part of one wall. Will need to clean the top. In locus 11, we encountered bedrock at the end of locus 2, with no trace of a preserved floor. While this is disappointing, the curvilinear southern wall in this trench is well preserved. More of the wall is visible to the east and west, and the trench could be expanded to expose more. I didn't see the point in doing so now, though, since my first priority is to identify area of the site with good preservation that could be candidates for larger excavations next summer. Decided to lay out operation 14 to the south, where a linear alignment of stones bisects the citadel, presumably a wall. The new operation straddles this alignment, in order to allow for expansion in an interior space, if that can be determined.
