LA made a case not to open either chamber in T01 today since it is Saturday and we will not work on Sunday. Consequently we opened new trenches near the sand mine. I opened T02 over what appeared to be 2 capstones of a cist or similar construction. LA and SW opened a trench over the tomb that was disturbed and visible in profile from a cut in the sand mine.
We had 2 substitutes today so... it was slow. And hot. I have no idea what is happening in T02. Got through the topsoil and working on defining the rocks and possible architecture by cleaning up locus 2.
We were all slowed down by the visit of the World Vision young girls. Of course I am delighted for the outreach opportunity and it was fun to teach them to recognize LBA cromlechs. But it wasn't the best day in terms of materials etc. Then around 3pm the survey team came to visit. EGAF, SB, and AFG lent a hand excavating locus 2 in T02 :) The GPR team/Georisk also walked through the burials on their way to work at Aparani Berd.
In T03, they exposed a ceramic vessel and of course LA wanted to do the whole thing in 1 day. Of course he was nowhere near done at 4pm so got the guys to stay late. SW and I stayed as well and we were all working way too quickly to clear out the soil from the chamber (were were screening everything) and LA hit a skull. Now since there was way more work he agreed to end work. We covered the vessel and skull. More work here on Monday and Tuesday!
