We continue to explore the citadel at Aparani Berd. Today we worked in operations 10 and 14, and opened a new operation in 15. In operation 10, we are now below the floor, and on bedrock. There remains some cleaning work both on the bedrock "interior" at the southern end of the trench and above the wall that covers much of the northern part of the trench. I'm still not sure about the wall at the eastern end, and may decide to remove a few stones that appear to be floating to see if the wall may be further back. In operation 14, we have uncovered two courses of the two-faced bisecting wall, so I created a series of new loci to distinguish what appears to be interior and exterior, as well as the wall itself. I also created a 1 meter extension to the north to uncover more of the possible interior. After a visit from Ruben, we agreed to expand also to the west, to expose more of the wall, as this will be helpful for his report to the Institute as a definitive architectural finding. I opened a new operation, 15, in between 10 and 14. The three trenches are roughly 15-18 meters apart. Traces of what looked like a wall made the area seem promising, but it has turned out to be exceptionally rocky. There's almost no place to work. Will expand 1 meter to the north to make a determination about continued work in this area. One highlight of the day was a visit from a World Vision girl's camp. There was enthusiasm and interest in our work, and real prospects for a children's summer camp.
