Incredibly hot today until it started raining at 3. All 3 of us continued in the same chambers.
I started troweling in the Burial 2 chamber and 2 minutes later found the base of a vessel upside down. It has hatch marks around the base, so likely LBA. It seems fairly large. There are some bones behind it in the corder that started coming up, but there are tiny roots grown all over them! UGH. So I just took down the rest of the chamber another 30-40cm. That is all so far. The walls of the cist are very nice... but no bones :(
Shujing also keeps going down. She pedestaled the sherd fragements, which all match, but they would up quite a good ways above everything so she took the elevations and photos and removed. Amy took soil samples from the chamber for flotation and i think phytolith analysis - she noticed some charcoal.
Amy also took samples from the disturbed tomb after Levon removed the bones. We took it out is soil blocks and will have to see what we can salvage.
I think this soil is rough on the bones. Sandy, clay, and where I am worked the matrix is shot through with white (calcium??) which I am guessing is not good for isotope preservation. Shujing's matrix is totally different.
