Today was a busy cleaning day in T38! In preparation for our first set of drone photos we took to loci 13 and 16. A lot of decisions were made as to what stones we could finally take out. Working from west to east outside of wall 9, we removed all of the floating stones and articulated the eastern face of wall 9. Unsurprisingly, we found a high density of cultural material in locus 16 (below). It is worth noting that the pieces of pottery we are now encountering have increased considerably in size from small fragments to larger -- and often diagnostic -- sherds. In this locus we also encountered some elements from our newest burial friend situated in locus 18 in the northeast corner. There are still more stones to remove -- that also appear to be collapse from wall 15 -- but we want to further articulate the skeletal remains (and document) prior to moving many more of the stones. As we encroached the southern end of locus 13, we wanted to be careful so as to not remove a potential underlying wall that may connect wall 9 and 10. To date, I am not convinced that this wall exists, but excavating stratigraphically should bring about some clarity. Wall 10 continues to extend even farther than we previously suspected, still running parallel to wall 9.
