Today's work focused on the drone imaging of JarJaris and Melikgyugh--conditions were excellent for flying at photography at both sites, only light wind and open, if slightly hazy skies. Both sites continue to represent intriguing test excavation candidates, with Melikgyugh providing for easier access, better internet signal, and more shade/shelter. We need to talk to a local Jarjaristsi in order to better understand the current village name (Derek? Charchakis?).
We took multiple transects worth of aerial photography at each site as well as a drone-based panorama image from Melikgyugh.
We then moved to the Kuchak survey quadrant where we completed one 1km transect, working northwards from an area in the northeast portion of the quadrant to just across the Aparan survey quad southern boundary. On my line, only clearance walls were recorded.
Because of guests, I was prevented from journaling yesterday (07/21/16). That work focused on site visits to JarJaris and Melikgyugh, followed by mapping work at Aparani Berd BC 03. There, we worked to eliminate less viable burial identifications from the geodatabase, first input in 2014, and we recorded diameters for each burial as well. Combined with Arsho's ground control point-refined georectification of the cluster's aerial photography, we will be able to superimpose our ground diagnoses on his imagery and create a new kind of map for the cluster and the project.
