Narrative

Today we walked four 1Km transects in the Kuchak quadrant near the western most end of the village of Kuchak and a sand quarry. Transect 73 ran south and I recorded an artifact scatter of a single non-diagnostic sherd.Transect 74 ran north and I found nothing to record which was likely due to the extensive fields I had to walk around and the prevalence of rocky outcrops. Along the way to the starting point for Transect 75 I recorded an artifact scatter at the bottom of a hill between the end of the hill and tilled fields that extended north from it. Above this scatter, part of the way up the hill on a small bench seemed to be the footprint of a modern building, with a change in vegetation and the presence of piles of asbestos tiles. There is also a small artifact scatter of pottery and modern china associated with this settlement. Transect 75 ran north. I recorded a wall, which appeared to be for erosion-management purposes, and a nearby scatter of obsidian tools near the beginning of the transect. Towards the end of the transect I recorded another anti-erosion wall and a potential settlement to the west of it on the hill above it. The settlement included several walls, a square room, and a possible entryway. Transect 76 ran south and I recorded a terrace wall at the beginning with at least two courses. Near this wall I recovered one non-diagnostic rim sherd. Again near this wall I recorded what was most likely a soviet field clearance wall. This was our final transect as we were rained out.
