Narrative

Today was our first day of cooperative weather and full team return to transect walking since Karen injured his leg on 7/26. We walked transects 73-76 N-S through the hills due west of the village or Kuchak. WE had first intended to return to the area of the Aparan survey quadrant west of the large factory complex at the southern edge Aparan. However, wet fields and mud made it impossible for us to access that portion of the survey region.

In the Kuchak quadrant, we walked 1km transects with the car positioned at the center of our walking area in order to maximize rain efficiency and safety. My transects did not host a good deal of archaeological material, save Soviet clearance walls, although we did record several artifact scatters, isolated architectural pieces, and artifact scatters overall. Of most interest were a settlement with room architecture, anti-erosion walls, and a possible cromlech; and a scatter of patinated lithics. Tomorrow we plant to continue filling in the map in this area.
