We resumed transect walking at the southern end of the survey area today. Although wet conditions and mud meant that we were not able to walk transects exactly where we wanted to, at least initially, we began with productive EW ones between the northwestern margins of Aragats village and the other Aragats quad transects walked earlier in the season (the vicinity of Tsaghka Berd). These were transects 79 and 80. We encountered a very large number of field clearance rock piles and walls, along with limited numbers of burials and a fantastic Mousterian projectile point.
After lunch, we move north across the Aragats and Tsaghkashen fields to walk transects in the foothills west of Kuchak. Wet conditions prevented us from driving all the way across the fields, so we walked .75 km to the transect start points and then moved north into the foothills on Transect 81. We immediately found what may be a rather large burial cluster of cromlechs, as well as other isolated burials located farther north. A small reservoir in this area, triangular in shape, may indicate significant disturbance here as well. We returned to the vehicle at days end by walking east to the area of the Kuchak forrest preserve.
