Narrative

On our final day of survey for 2016 we returned to the middle of theAparan quad, where the hilly landscape is interspersed with small highland fields and site concentrations have been generally low. This work consisted of transects 89-92. No further new data collection with the drone will be performed during this field season.

We encountered numerous clearance walls and little in terms of architecture or surface materials as we connected this area of the survey with the southern Nigavan quadrant from 2015. The one exception was a single Acheulian handaxe, an obsidian tool found by Salpi! It is a beautiful and well preserved specimen found in the cut of a steep slope SW of the Aparan red/white TV antenna. A great find for the end of a season!
