Today marked the first day of the 2017 excavations at Gegharot. Picking up right where I left off last summer, I returned to T38 to continue to trace the existing walls and further determine the overall configuration, building episodes, and utilization of this feature.
We began the day by mapping out extensions in the north, south, and west regions of the unit. In the north, we wanted to catch the join between locus 24 and locus 31, that encloses locus 28. Accordingly, we extended three meters. We also hope this expansion will reveal if locus 15 continues further north. In the south, we extended one meter to further trace locus 15's continuation. It is already clear that one meter was not enough! This wall appears to curve and continue to run along the slope. In the west, we extended one meter to make sure that we caught the edge of the cultural floor uncovered in locus 7. This operation will hopefully elucidate the nature of activities in this space.
